iMac DV G3/400 Indigo (Early 2001)

leave a comment »

This Apple iMac DV G3 is a beautifully designed personal computer that is useful, versatile and is in excellent physical and functional condition.

Not as “historic” as my previous post. Still a very useful and handy little machine that is in excellent condition.

The shell is translucent and the internal computer components are visible. The shell has no visible marks.

The G3 400MHz CPU is peepy and keeps up with most tasks. This iMac includes Firewire for connectivity.

Original system list price in 2001: $899

Some tech specs:

  • PowerPC 750 (G3) @ 400MHz
  • 640 MB RAM (1x 256 MB  DIMM 1x 128MB DIMM)
  • ATI Rage 128 Pro video with 8 MB of VRAM
  • built in 15″ (13.8″ viewable) monitor
  • 24x CD-ROM
  • 80 GB hard drive
  • 2 USB, 2 Firewire, 1 modem, 1 Ethernet, 1 audio in, 1 speaker out, 1 headphone
  • built in Harmon-Kardon designed sound system
  • Mac OS 10.4 installed
  • will also boot Mac OS 9.2 (installed)
  • included but not pictured, Yamaha 40x external firewire CDRW

Note: I actually have the original box, packaging, cables, and install CDs for this iMac. It really is in quite remarkable condition for a 10 year old personal computer.

Original iMac G3 Bondi Blue (Rev B)

with 2 comments

This original G3 Bondi Blue iMac is a glorious piece of personal computing history; unique design, and a “first” in many respects.

This was the first computer that Apple called iMac; promoted as a new Mac for the Internet age, hence the “i” prefix. The form factor of the All-In-One computer was also unique at the time. This was the first Mac to include USB ports; and to exclude a floppy drive. This iMac also included the now infamous “hockey puck” mouse; a fascinating design for a mouse but really awkward to use. The built-in ethernet port made networking easy, something its windows counterparts were still struggling with at the time.

This particular iMac has some cosmetic damage to the plastic facia around the monitor. When I moved a while back, I dropped it on some black top from about 2 feet. The monitor didn’t get a scratch, but the plastic is marred.

This system originally sold for $1200 in 1998.

Some Tech specs:

  • PowerPC 750 (G3) @ 233MHz
  • 512 MB RAM (2x 256MB SODIMMS)
  • ATI Rage Pro Turbo video with 6 MB of VRAM
  • built in 15″ (13.8″ viewable) monitor
  • 24x CD-ROM
  • 25 GB hard drive (see below)
  • 2 USB, 1 modem, 1 Ethernet, 1 audio in, 1 speaker out, 1 headphone
  • built in speakers
  • Mac OS 10.2.8 installed
  • will also boot Mac OS 9.2 (installed)

Note: The BIOS on the iMac does not recognize a partition larger than 8GB for boot. So this drive has been partitioned 8GB/17GB to get it to boot. (We are dealing with 1998 technology).

Even more pointless information about this iMac: The internal components closely resemble the components of Mac power books of the same era.

Zenith 32″ CRT TV

leave a comment »

I spent a lot of time this weekend purging stuff from the basement. This is one thing that I found that I was really interesting in posting about.

First off, this thing is heavy. It is also awkward to move.  Really awkward to move.

It is large; 30.5″ W, 27″ H, 22″ D.

It powers on and works just fine. But since it is an old TV, it does not pick up broadcast TV signals without a digital converter box. It works just fun with a cable box.

Here are some technical details:

Inputs:

  • antenna
  • composite (RCA) video and audio
  • S-video

Outputs:

  • composite audio

My goal is to have a lot of participation in the polls. So even if you are not familiar with a particular item please vote. Is the posted item worth it to YOU. I don’t expect you guys to do research, or even make an informed decision. Just let me know how you feel about the item. This is supposed to be fun after all.

Hello world!

with one comment

This blog is really just for fun; nothing too serious.

I am a bit of a pack rat but I find myself wanting not to be one. So I have this junk and I want to know is it worth anything? $50? $20? Is it worth a burrito at your favorite tex-mex/mexican/latino food service location?

Why a burrito? Well, I like burritos. I don’t eat them often because I am trying to loose some weight. Also, my wife does not like burritos, so my family does not eat them that often. Therefor they have more value to me than just the monetary value they are worth. Kind of like the stuff/junk/vintage item/salvage I am posting.

I am not expecting the reader to “buy” these items I post. I just want to get a consensus if it is worth the monetary value of a burrito. For reference, that value it somewhere between $7 and $10.

I hope you laugh a little. Think a little. And I hope you don’t get too much gas from eating all these burritos.
